Prohibited Trees
The Massachusetts Prohibited Plant List is a list of plants, including trees, that have been banned in Massachusetts since 2005 by the State Department of Agricultural Resources. The purpose of the ban is to stop the spread of non-native invasive plants in Massachusetts. These are the trees, including all cultivars, that you cannot plant in Provincetown or anywhere else in Massachusetts, whether on public or private property:
These trees also are prohibited from sale, purchase, trade and propagation. Although transplanting them is not banned, please avoid doing so as their very presence is harmful to our environment. Pull out saplings where you find them, especially of Norway Maple.
