m-Tree
Provincetown’s Memorial Tree Program
We are delighted to announce the launch of m-Tree, Provincetown’s new memorial tree program. The Tree Warden has become the steward of memorial trees in Provincetown, accepting the responsibility after many years of stewardship by the former Beautification Committee and its former chair Barbara Rushmore. Trees Provincetown has offered its services to the Tree Warden and will run the program for everyone’s benefit. Contributions from donors who wish to participate will cover the costs.
You can participate in m-Tree by working with us to plant a new tree in memory of a loved one you wish to memorialize. Memorial trees will be located on a street or other public right-of-way, on town property and, with the property owner’s permission, on private property near a public right-of-way. They will be cared for under the memorial tree program and protected from removal under Provincetown’s tree bylaw. m-Tree is administered by Trees Provincetown with oversight from the Provincetown Tree Warden.
Planting a Memorial Tree
Information about planting locations for memorial trees is available upon request from Trees Provincetown. Species recommended for planting are listed below. In return for a tax-deductible contribution, Trees Provincetown will work with you to select the tree appropriate for an available planting site, and oversee the planting. In addition to the tree, your contribution will cover the costs of its delivery and installation, care for the first year after planting, mulch, fertilizer, a watering bag, and a small plaque at the base of the tree with the name and years of birth and death of the loved one you wish to memorialize, together with the botanical and common names of the tree. We will schedule all plantings for the Fall – October 1 to December 15. The deadline to order is August 1. Pricing begins at $850.
